ASTORE DOCS v3.0
(Arj reSTOREr)
CopyRight (c) 1994, All Rights Reserved.
by Mark J. Ruskin
!!! NEW FOR v3.0 !!!
YOU MUST USE THE "INSTALL.EXE" FILE.
The Program will NOT function if not installed with the INSTALL.EXE
program.
The program will prompt you for a Drive/Directory that is in your
DOS Path to install to. This will insure that you can just type the
program's name and it will launch no matter where you are on your
Hard Disk.
The Install program will list each Drive/Directory that's in your
path, with a number next to it. Just type the number next to the
Drive/Directory where you want the program installed. If you make a
mistake, the Install program will ask if your sure of the Install To
path. Just press 'N', 'n' or 'Esc' to cancel, and rerun the Install
program.
The SGL and ASTORE programs will both be installed at the
same time.
Requirements:
A copy of the ARJ.EXE program, v2.41 or greater, by Robert K. Jung.
A Hard Disk Drive.
An IBM XT or AT, or 100% compatible, with atleast 512K of memory.
Of that 512K, you'll have to have about 350 to 380 free.
I know DOS 3.3 or above will work, anything below 3.3 I'm not sure of.
ASTORE came about because I got tired of having to list my ARJ files
and then either remember or write down the files I wanted to extract, if
I didn't want to extract all the files in the archive.
Well, now you don't have too. ASTORE will show you a list of up to 60
ARJ or A?? (if you have multi volume ARJ files) files. Just choose the
number next to the file you want to work with. It will then make a temp
file list of the files in your ARJ archive.
You'll then be asked if you want to extract the files with the saved
PATHNAMES, (if any) or extract them without the saved PATHNAMES. This
gives you the ability to restore the files in an archive to where ever
they came from. (If the archive was made with SAVED PATHNAMES.)
Which ever one you choose you'll then be asked for a new PATHNAME to
extract to. If you just press Return the files will be extracted to the
Current Working Directory, if you choose NOT to use Saved PathNames.
(If you choose to extract with Saved PathNames, you should give the Root
directory of the drive to restore too. ie: "C:\" for drive C.)
Example:
If the SAVED PathName is C:\DOS\UTIL\FILENAME.EXT. And you choose to use
the Saved PathNames, the files you choose to extract will be extracted to
Drive C: in DOS\UTIL\ directory. If any Subdirectory in the Saved Path
doesn't exist, ARJ will ask you if you want to make it. ([Y/N/A/Q])
Y = Yes
N = No
A = Always
Q = Quit
If you answer No at any of these prompts ARJ will quit right there.
If you answer A for Always, you won't be asked if other subdirectories need
to be made, ARJ will automaticly make them for you.
After choosing to use Saved PathNames or not, you'll be shown a listing
of the files in the ARJ file you choose to work with. You'll see up to
40 files per screen. If you want to extract one or more of the listed files
just choose the number next to the file, and press Return. After each number
you'll be asked for the next file to expand. If you don't want to expand
any of the files just press Return without an entry.
If there are more than 40 files in the archive, you'll be shown the next
screen of files. Just repeat the process above until you've choosen all
the files you want extracted.
If you see a '/X' or a '/V' next to one of the
file names, this means that file is split between 2 (or more) ARJ files.
A '/X'means it's the first part of the file and a '/V' means it's the
next, or last part of a file. This will happen if the ARJ files was made
using the /v switch, for volume size files.
Example:
If a backup of your hard drive was made with ARJ and you wanted to make
the files so they would all fit on 1.44 meg disks. You might have 5 or
more files named say:
DRV_C_BK.ARJ, DRV_C_BK.A01, DRV_C_BK.A02, and so on. (My program SGL
does this nicly.)
In this case you'd probably have a split file at the end of the first
ARJ file and at the beginning and end of the rest of the files, except the
last one in the set. It might have one at the beginning but not the end of
the file.
In this case, if you do choose a file to extract, and it has a '/X' next
to it, you'd have to also run ASTORE again using the next ARJ file in the
set, and choosing the same filename to extract with a '/V' next to it. If
you don't you'd only have part of the file extracted.
If you've finished choosing files for extration, and you're shown another
screen of choices, or if you want to quit on the first screen, just press
any ALPHABETIC Key. (A thru Z). This tells ASTORE you're finished picking
file names to extract and to start the extract process.
If you haven't choosen any files to extract, you'll hear a beep and
you'll be asked if you want to extract ALL the files in the current
archive file. The default is NO. Any thing but 'Y' or 'y' will Abort the
program with no action taken, and you'll be asked if you want to extract
from another file. If you press 'Y' or 'y' all the files in the archive
will be extracted.
